In crucial conversations it is important to be tactful and to follow the principles of the commitment pattern. It is very helpful to have goto dialog statements that you can use to tactfully elicit progress in those situations.

My favorite goto phrases are:

  • “I understand what you are saying about ________. In addition to that, is there anything else that is causing ________?”
  • “I imagine________.”
  • “Tell me more about that.”
  • “What do you think about it?”

What are your favorite cheat sheet phrases to use in crucial conversations?
