Company Dashboards

Company dashboards are a great way to share information and are increasingly popular within startups. Key metrics from across the organization are displayed for all to see, helping set the company’s pulse.

At AccelerEyes, we project our dashboard onto a wall in our office. We drive the projector with a cheap laptop running the Chrome Browser along with the Chrome Extensions Tab Slideshow (to scroll through the tabs every 30 sec), Auto Refresh Plus (to automatically refresh each tab every 5 min), and LastPass (to automatically sign-in to webpages if timeouts occur). We also configure Chrome to launch all the tabs upon first opening the Chrome browser.

Currently, we run the following tabs in our dashboard:

  • Salesforce.com Company Dashboard – a sales metrics dashboard showing monthly revenue, downloads, trials, and sales opportunity information
  • Jenkins Dashboard – a real-time engineering dashboard of our source code build and test infrastructure, displaying which systems are building and testing our code properly and which are having trouble
  • JIRA In-Progress Dashboard – a real-time engineering dashboard of things engineers are currently working on
  • Company Tweetdeck – with 4 columns for various monitoring company and market-related conversations on Twitter

We are always looking for additional useful content to add to our dashboard, so comment below if you have suggestions. We’d like to add a nice feed of humor as a tab (e.g. we would do xkcd.com but it doesn’t update frequently enough).

Any suggestions on other content to add to our dashboard? What does your startup do for dashboarding?
