Reapproaching Former Hiring Prospects

In 2009, we hired our first employees. We wanted to hire the best talent we could find, but we did not have much money. So we tried our best to catch good talent with a mix of low salaries balanced by heavy profits interest units in the company (i.e. shares). We caught some great employees and they are all now owners of those units in our business.

However, a few of those prospects slipped through our fingers at the time because they wanted more salary component to the compensation.

In the interim, we have kept in touch with those hires and have continued to watch their progress. Recently we’ve started to reach back out and have been successful on the second attempt to make a match and bring these new hires on board.

Hiring employees is a sales process like any other. It requires finding people, qualifying the lead, nurturing the prospect, and closing the deal. If the deal doesn’t close today, that doesn’t mean it won’t close a few years later.

Have you reapproached former hiring prospects and been successful?
