Reading in a Busy Schedule
One of the tougher things for entrepreneurs to do is to read, especially to read books. With so much else going on, there is little time left over for a time-intensive task like reading a book.
Yet, I am convinced that those who do not read grow dull over time. There is nothing comparable to reading to keep ones brain thinking, discovering, and getting smarter.
Over the last several years, I’ve been too busy to read many books. The main time I read books is on planes during take-off, landing, or when my laptop battery is dead. I really have enjoyed those moments.
While I’ve not read books recently as much as I’d like, I have been reading more blogs than ever. Those keep my head full of fresh ideas. But blog posts are not able to dish out on the same level as books. There are certain ideas that would not translate well to blog posts.
I do not like to read books that are just a complication of blog posts. Many startup books are like that, so I tend to avoid many of those.
When I see good book recommendations, I accrue them on my Goodreads account. I sort them into shelves. I’ve accrued several hundred books to read there.
I still do not have a great solution for when I should fit book reading into my schedule, but I have picked up book reading again recently and can feel the difference.
How do you fit book reading into your schedule?

During the summers I have more energy. Instead of working more, I spend my “extra time” in my personal life, such as reading.

Sounds good. I’m trying to figure out how to squeeze it into regular life. Summer vacations are when I like to catch up on the backlog of my Instapaper queued articles.
