Tonight’s Atlanta Startup Village #9 Recap
Tonight’s Atlanta Startup Village was awesome. This afternoon I looked at the Meetup.com page for the event and was stunned by the 280 registrants! That’s incredible.
My fellow presenter’s tonight were fantastic. In my mind, Umenta was one of the best startup presentations I’ve seen in a very long time. It made me want to be a part of what those guys are doing. I’m a big family history buff and think they are sitting on a huge opportunity. I will track those guys down.
Here’s a recap of tonight’s companies:
- Helping families preserve memories
- Preserving memories has many benefits, in addition to the preservation of memories, including:
- Helping with wealth preservation through generations
- Preserving culture through generations
- A connection with family history has been shown to benefit childhood development
- Umenta seemed to me to be a Facebook for your own family, completely disconnected from everyone else
- There is voice recording for older people to enter stories without typing
- All about connecting generations
- Product feeds are not flexible, not real-time. Pliant labs changes that.
- They automatically create APIs from products to enable more fluid updating and targeting of various e-commerce platforms.
- The offer an API management tool and dashboard.
- Providing a managed service for bookkeeping
- Add more tech to reduce people-in-the-loop and eliminate a lot of manual data entry
- An impressive 21 clients signed since the end of January, paying somewhere in the range of $300-$1,200/month
- This is a guy that cooked up a hologram device in his basement, by spinning a 2D display and doing interesting things with the Unity game engine
- Classic example of a “build it and they will come” failure
- He’s righting his approach and now embarking on customer development
I was also honored to present AccelerEyes tonight. Many thanks to those that saved me from having 666 Twitter followers; I’m now at 681!
It was great to be with everyone and feel the energy of the Atlanta Startup Village crowd at the Atlanta Tech Village tonight.
