Fun Friday: Disco Kroger

Taking a play from Fred Wilson, I decided to do a Fun Friday post today.

This spring we moved from Tech Square to Buckhead. The new office is directly across from a Chipotle and every other restaurant is 3-5x further away than Chipotle – a tax on Villagers in more ways than one. Nearly everyone at AccelerEyes has the Chipotle ordering app on their phones.

Meanwhile, I’ve been trying to slim up a bit. Most of my life I’ve been the thin guy in the room. Startup stress and long hours away from healthy home cooking ruined that.

Despite the Chipotle temptation and the regular appearance of Chick-fil-a in the building’s lobby, I have found my health groove through the nearby Kroger, which locals dub “Disco Kroger.” The food selection is fantastic and healthy. I never get bored there. It’s a nice walk – good to stretch and not time-consuming.

This week I took photos of prepared food from Disco Kroger. Enjoy!

Sushi – Freshly prepared at the counter

Deli Sandwiches – Boar’s Head meats and cheeses

Six Dollar Main Meal and Two Sides – Amazing and healthy variety, changes daily. For example, below I show a beef and mushroom main dish with eggplant/mozzarella/tomato and cauliflower/pea sides.

Beef Kabobs + Sides – Cooked on the George Foreman grill in the office.

In addition to the sushi, deli, six-dollar-menu, and kabobs, there is a salad bar and a southern fried hot foods bar (not shown).

In case you were wondering why it’s named “Disco Kroger,” I found the following on Yelp:

It gets it’s nickname from it’s location. In the early 80’s Club Limelight used to sit in this location or nearby. The spot would eventually house this Kroger. If you look up at the atrium on the right side they still have a disco ball hanging, which is a cool throwback.

How do you find healthy food around the Village?
