Disruptive Innovation in Technical Computing

In our technical computing market, disruptive innovations occur like clockwork. In fact, some of Clayton Christensen’s original studies of disruption included examples from computing (e.g. the hard disk drive).

One of the biggest conferences in our market, Supercomputing, has a track each year for recognizing our industry’s disruptive innovators. AccelerEyes was named a disruptive innovator at the Supercomputing 2009 conference.

Clayton Christensen gave the keynote at the Supercomputing 2010 conference. It is a must see talk for anyone in our industry (video download link). He walks through how Dell is getting disrupted by ASUS and calls out Dell for being left with nothing but their brand. It’s harsh but true.

It is wonderful to play a role in developing disruptive innovations in a startup and to watch the theory unfold in practice.
