The Principle of Gratitude for Startups
Gratitude is a powerful principle and important for startups. From time-to-time, I’ve done a little personal study on the topic. Today I wanted to post some of my recent thoughts about gratitude and hear from you about the topic as well.
To start, it’s been shown that gratitude plays an important role in contributing to happiness. Watch the inspiring video below to learn more about that.
It’s also interesting that gratitude plays an important role in everyone’s life, regardless of the level of hardship or luxury.
For instance, in the early stages of a startup, gratitude for progress made can help encourage a team through challenging times and dissipate divisiveness among its members. The Greek philosopher Epictetus said, “He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.”
In the later successful stages of a startup, gratitude is the antidote to pride, conceit, and arrogance that sometimes accompany triumph. Gordon B. Hinckley said, “When you walk with gratitude, you do not walk with arrogance and conceit and egotism, you walk with a spirit of thanksgiving that is becoming to you and will bless your lives.”
The English author Aldous Huxley wrote, “Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted.” Paradoxically, we often take for granted the things that are most important to us – like family and co-founders. Recognizing and combating these tendencies can lead to greater happiness and powerful startup relationships.
