The Johari Window
The Johari Window is something that is discussed in the Entrepreneur’s Organization. It’s a 2×2 grid that shows 4 quadrants of information, as shown in the image below:
The “Open” quadrant is where we are most functional. The more we can push the boundaries of ourselves into our “Blind” and “Hidden” quadrants to both learn from others as well as become more transparent, the more “Open” we can become. The result of pushing on the boundaries of “Blind” and “Hidden” is that the “Unknown” quadrant also begins to shrink.
Next time someone is clamming up on you and you need to have a heart-to-heart, remember the Johari Window and find ways to grow the “Open” quadrant.
