Reading Instapaper with SoundGecko
Since summer of 2012, I’ve faced an Instapaper challenge with articles coming in faster than I can process them. I’ve accrued over 300 unread articles.
When I read, I want to read my Kindle. So Instapaper has not been getting attention.
Andre on Twitter recommended SoundGecko to read my articles to me during my commute. I tried it this week and it’s fantastic. It works like this:
- Plug my private Instapaper RSS feed into the SoundGecko mobile app
- Choose the voice I want
- Wait for the audio transcoding process (typically just a few minutes)
- Listen to the articles on SoundGecko while driving
- When at a computer, go back through the articles completed in Instapaper and file them or archive them appropriately
Only a handful of the articles did not transcode properly and those are easy to digest on the computer. Three of my blog posts this past week have been inspired by things I’ve been listening to on SoundGecko from my Instapaper.
I’m surprised at how pleasant the SoundGecko voice is to listen to, much better than other services I have used in the past. Thanks for the recommendation Andre!
Have you tried SoundGecko?
