What Regular Written Updates Do You Do?

As a CEO of a startup, communication is vital. Keeping a regular cadence of communication is especially helpful to keep everyone on the same page and to thwart any conflict that might arise from festering hidden wedges.

I’m curious to hear from other startup co-founders (or other business leaders) about your approach to regular written updates. Here are some examples of audiences we have mulled over in our minds from time-to-time as potential recipients of a regular written update:

  • All employees
  • Only management employees
  • Only co-founders
  • Investors
  • Strategic partners (who might be a future interested acquirer)
  • The general public

Who do you keep updated on a regular basis through written communication?

Great post John. It’s super important to collect as much information from your teams as possible with as little effort as possible. We’ve created a web app internally to get weekly online customizable status reports (reporting structure can be setup to match any org chart) from everyone in the company in no more than 10 minutes every week. It’s been such a help to us that we’ve been offering it to other companies as well.

Thanks for the comment Costas! Sometimes internally developed tools are the best way to go!
