When You Need A Friend To Carry You

Kaylynn and I are humbled by the outpouring of love and service from friends and family this week. Our world was rocked; recovery has begun.

What an impressive circle of love. So much love abounds.

We’ve received visitors, food, and have a calendar open to more of the same in the coming weeks.

This rendition of “You Will Be Found” by BYU Vocal Point has brought tears to my eyes.

Lyrics are here.

Well, let that lonely feeling wash away
Maybe there’s a reason to believe you’ll be okay
‘Cause when you don’t feel strong enough to stand
You can reach, reach out your hand
And oh, someone will come running
And I know, they’ll take you home
Even when the dark comes crashing through
When you need a friend to carry you
And when you’re broken on the ground
You will be found
(emphasis added to what I feel right now)

The message that we will be found brings great relief. It is true. The discovery of relief comes in God’s own timing. He works in mysterious ways and from an eternal perspective. He leads and rescues each of us. He guides us through this life into a glorious afterlife beyond our earthly comprehension.

I found great relief this week each day. Sunday I felt some of the worst pains of my life. Monday hurt a lot. Tuesday less. Today is Friday and I have felt pretty good all day.

Also, each day we have learned more and more about what happened. We have been allowed to process this tragic event in small daily doses. We have been incredibly calm and we’re grateful to God for this tender mercy.

I like the following quote “The Book of Relief” about hindsight.

People experience sins, mistakes, and accidents in this life. Organizations of relief are so important to the positive energy of our planet.

The women in my family belong to an incredible philanthropic organization of women called Relief Society. Founded in 1842 and having millions of members, it is one of the oldest and largest organizations of women. It does so much good throughout the world. I am grateful for their examples of service in my life.

Heavenly Father has been with us this week. From allowing us to live at the moment of impact, to guiding our caretakers and recovery. When times are dark, He is the nightlight. Always present. Never abandoning. Always loving. Pure love and light.

Lyrics are here.

Lead me home
When I don't know which way is right
Love me when it's hard
I promise that I'm not
Leaving from your side
And when I fall apart
Promise in the dark
You'll be my nightlight, ooh

Many of our friends and family from time to time have expressed a feeling of abandonment or loneliness. To them, Kaylynn and I wish to be an ongoing source of relief. Even as we receive relief from others now, we too hope to serve you throughout our lives.

To those who feel utterly alone, God is there. He helps those asking with a willing heart. It’s merely a choice to turn to God. From there, all things fall into place, even if for a time we can do better on our own and by ourselves, just us and God.

Lyrics are here.

I can do bad on my own and good by myself
I never needed no help
I needed you niggas, you wasn’t right there
You need me, lil' nigga, I’m still gon' be here
My vision was blurry and now I see clear

Thank you for the food Nas, Arshad, and Rakeem & Diana. Thank you for those who have visited and for those who plan to visit. Even for those of you willing to read what I write! I appreciate it; you can even subscribe in the upper right corner.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
