3 Easy Things Blog Readers Can Do

This week I’ll hit 250 blog posts. That’s one per day in 2013.

I’m also a big blog reader. I read most everything coming out of Atlanta. I read a ton of other stuff too. Here is a list I last updated in January; it excludes the blogs I read in my own market.

As a blog writer and reader, I have discovered there are nice things that blog readers can do to contribute back to the bloggers providing content. I’ll list 3 of those here:

  1. Submit the articles to two places:  Hacker News and Reddit (“programming” sub-reddit which is essentially the same as Hacker News). I include easy links on every post to make submission of my articles easy! Every time I submit a post to Hacker News and Reddit, at least 200-300 visitors follow. I did this today for Johnson Cook’s post on persistence.
  2. Use the blog comments (instead of tweets) to discuss the post. Blog comments stick around perpetually and preserve the conversation for future readers. Tweets disappear.
  3. If you’ve never met me and live in Atlanta, I’d love to meet you in person. I wish I could shake more of your hands! Send me a tweet to suggest a meetup. I’m in the Atlanta Tech Village and easy to find.

I think any blogger would be thrilled with those 3 contributions, and I plan on doing more contributions myself in the future.

Recently, there have a been a few blog-n-twitter discussions about bloggers in Atlanta. At the end of each quarter, I recap the stats on this blog as well as some of my reasons for blogging. Here is my most recent recap of those stats. The next recap will come out on October 1st. Many of my reasons for blogging are not immediately obvious and were not obvious to me before I started posting daily. I’ll reserve my thoughts on reasons for blogging for a future date.

What else can blog readers do to contribute back?
