Entrepreneurship as a Viable Option
More than anything, the belief that starting a company is a viable option is what separates entrepreneurs from non-entrepreneurs. –From Francisco Dao at PandoDaily
I’ve written before about reasons why you should join a startup over a BigCo. I use those reasons while I’m recruiting people to come join our team.
BigCo’s rely on a worldwide celebrity-like glamour to bolster their ability to recruit. Startups have to do more to help candidates view their offer as a viable option.
In order for someone to join AccelerEyes, they must view joining a startup as a viable option. They must also view Atlanta as a viable option for their current or future family (which it resoundingly is and that’s another topic).
I also spend a fair amount of time mentoring others currently in school or currently in BigCo jobs. Many of them dream about life as an entrepreneur. They dream about owning their own business and being untethered. But for whatever reason, most do not view entrepreneurship as a viable option.
You cannot really learn entrepreneurship in high school or undergraduate programs. Every teacher and administrator in those schools is only programmed to feed you a cookie cutter career. Entrepreneurship therefore does not become a viable option for most.
I wrote previously about the circuitous route I took to become an entrepreneur.
How did entrepreneurship become a viable option for you?
