Get a Powerful Entrepreneurial Mindset
You’re making $200k at a BigCo. Or you’re graduating with a 4.0 GPA and have your pick of McKinsey, Bain, or BCG – or Google, Apple, or Facebook. Cool right?
But you have an itch. You want to start your own thing. You want to live a more raw life experience.
You can! You just need to get a powerful entrepreneurial mindset. Here are some ingredients I believe are important:
- You have to be willing to live on the cheap. You can’t care about material stuff. You need to care about building something great and selling it. You need to care about skills and people and that’s it.
- You have to (rightfully) believe that any of those BigCo opportunities will still be around if things go poorly with your entrepreneurial gambit.
- You can’t worry about the opportunity costs. Rather, you can accept that the opportunity costs are a small price to pay to take a stab at something awesome. You can realize that your life really won’t be any less happy with fewer material possessions. In fact, doing your own thing might boost your happiness in some cases.
- You have to be scrappy and hungry. Go get ’em. Work your butt off.
Oftentimes, it’s better to join an existing startup rather than start your own thing immediately. In any case, adjusting your mindset can be a powerful force in helping unleash your entrepreneurial spirit.
What other aspects are important for an entrepreneurial mindset?
