On Hitting Startup Rhythm

The last everyday system that has been super impactful this year is our decision to follow the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to hit startup rhythm.

EOS has a number of steps and is not implemented in a day. However, with careful attention to the details, we have implemented half of the system over the past few months. Specifically we have created an accountability chart, established quarterly rocks, and stuck to a meeting pulse that guides our business systematically. We are also in the early stages of implementing scorecards.

Every major business function now operates independent of any founder involvement. Sales and marketing have plans and rhythm. Engineering and customer support have plans and rhythm. We have systematic methods for acquiring new customers and delivering happiness to existing customers. We have the awesome opportunity to explore new ideas and look forward to bringing some of those to market in 2014.

We also have great processes for finding and recruiting new team members and for on-boarding and training our people. Our people are great and each one has made significant personal progress in 2013 as well. I’m especially thrilled by that.

This year has been transformative in hitting a startup rhythm and, while it took us a while to hit our stride, I’m grateful for the transformation this year.

What are your thoughts on hitting startup rhythm?
