What Do You Say To A Prospect You Lost Due To Price?

Yesterday I wrote about the need to lose some prospective customers due to price. I shared how we had lost one particular deal recently.

We are now working on a good parting email to share with customers that do not chose to go with us. Here are some bullet points I’ve asked my team to consider as they craft a better worded response to losing deals:

  • We are the best at what we do, but we recognize we are not the cheapest.
  • In these matters, the cheapest often winds up more expensive than the best, because if it is not done right it is often worse than not done at all.
  • Code that is not written correctly or efficiently in this space is not helpful at all. It often has to be tossed out and rewritten from scratch with the right architecture in mind from the start.

I’m sure my team will come up with better things to say than my bullets above, but I’m curious what you do in these situations.

What things do you say to customers when you lose a deal?

If I believe they are wrong, I flat out tell them they are making a mistake and then describe what they can achieve if they change their mind.
