David Cummings put up a post yesterday about market awareness. I have written before about how early on we had to educate our customers generally about the GPU and accelerated computing. The entire market was in the dark. It was a huge uphill battle of market awareness.
Luckily we were not alone. Other partners in our market were also working to bring awareness to our market.
It was a big gamble at the time. There were more skeptics than believers about the viability of GPU or accelerated computing. Now there are no longer skeptics. People have seen the numbers, the accelerated applications, and the benefits.
It is sooooo much easier to sell today, into an aware market. It was not this way 5 years ago.
In hindsight, I think it was great to start our company ahead of the curve on awareness. By taking part in the market education, we really generated great relationships throughout the US for our product.
It is also a gamble. If the skeptics had been right, the rug would have been swept entirely out from under our startup.
What are your thoughts on market awareness and timing?
