Screwed Together

In the cacophony of Twitter, sectarians often try to prove the absence of divine law. This weekend I thought of a metaphor to describe this fool’s errand.

When people argue that screws should not have threads, it is absurd when they think their argument hits the nail on the head. To a carpenter, the power to loose is equal and opposite to the power to bind. Both are essential and equal powers. No good carpenter ignores a screw when it is needed.

Jesus Christ is the Master Carpenter of our souls. He loves us. But He requires us to adopt His threads on His screws. When we fight that, we are dangerously close to the nails that were heinously cheered long ago.

Choosing good over evil is not optional. It is required to follow God’s law to avoid hurting one another and to find happiness in being properly screwed together. The law is sweet to those who delight to obey the word of God.

The law begins with the Two Great Commandments, to love God and to love each other. Everything else is a derivative of those.

(PS: Go follow Carrie; she writes best about divine law.)
